This afternoon I did life drawing, I wanted to link this in with my current project so I decided that I would paint the back of his head, as I was looking at Gerhard Richter's 'Betty' this morning and wanted to create something similar/inspired by him. This was because I didn't want to be doing the same thing over and over and decided that this would be an interesting image and it would also still be a portrait.
I am happy with the out come, as I think that it looks effective. I think that this is because I used much bigger brushes and bigger brush strokes when I was painting, I think that this adds more texture than the way that I would normally paint. I think that the proportions are pretty accurate, apart for the ear, which I think is a little too far back and it is also just slightly too small, compare with the rest of his head. But other than that I am pleased with the out come for the amount of time we had, as we only had one session to get it finished, and I think that the bigger brush strokes helped me get it finished as it was a quicker way of working.
Acrylic on paper (A1).
